Our story starts in the small of town Werken, where major Amandus Vanhonsebrouck owns his very own brewery.
Emile inherits his father’s hobby. In 1900, he and his wife Louise open Brewery Sint Jozef in Ingelmunster.
Paul and Ernest continue their parents’ life’s work. The brothers invest in growth, exports and lager.
Luc, son of Paul, in turn shifts the focus from lager to specialty beers of top, spontaneous and mixed fermentation.
In 1986, the Vanhonsebrouck family buys the Castle of Ingelmunster. The castle inspires brewer Luc to brew his first quadruple.
Luc abandons the traditional recipe and opts for a complex, sweet flavor palette. Kasteel was born and soon became synonymous with innovation.
Son Xavier joins the brewery. Thanks to his sales strategy, Kasteel takes on the pioneering role in the classic beer landscape.
In 2007, he launches a strong cherry beer. Kasteel Rouge becomes a new style of beer and honors our entrepreneurial spirit.
In 2009, Xavier succeeds his father Luc. He pushes the brewery to the next level with innovative brews and a brand new brewery!
As the brewery continues to grow, expanding in Ingelmunster is not an option. In 2016, the construction of a brand new brewing plant in Izegem starts.
A new building, a new name: Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck opens its doors for visitors worldwide while doubling its production capacity.
Xavier is the first Belgian specialty beer brewer to invest in an inhouse canning line. With canned beer, he opts for a sustainable export packaging.
